How Do I Create An Amended Return?

The 1040X Module in the TaxSlayer Program is designed to quickly produce a Federal and State Amended Return.

If you will be amending the state return along with the federal return, begin with Step 1.  If you are only amending the federal return, begin with Step 2.

Step 1:  Open the return and select ‘State Return’ from the clients 1040 Menu.  Choose the state you will be amending from the list.  The amended return will be located in the Miscellaneous Forms menu in most states.  Choose the Amended Return Menu and click OK on the 'changes' message.  Next click on the Amended State Form Number and choose the correct year.  Select the Original Column and then exit to the Client’s 1040 Menu.

Step 2:  Make the necessary changes to the federal return.  Once the changes are complete, select the Miscellaneous Menu from the Client’s 1040 Menu.  Choose the Amended Return Menu and then the Edit 1040X Menu.  Next, select the year of the amended return.  The changes made to the return will appear on the 1040X Menu.  The Amended Return no longer has an Original and Corrected Column, the form now only consists of one column.  If everything looks correct, exit the menu.  You can enter an explanation of the changes and you can also print the 1040X Form.  Once finished, exit to the Client’s 1040 Menu.  If you are not amending the state return, the 1040X is now complete.

Step 3:  The final step is to pull the changes to the state return.  From the Client’s 1040 Menu, select ‘State Return’ and choose the state from the list.  Select the Miscellaneous Forms menu.  Choose the Amended Return Menu and click OK on the 'changes' message.  Next select the Amended Form Number menu and choose the Corrected Column to pull the new figures into the state program.  You can enter an explanation of changes and then print the state amended form as you have now completed the state amended form.
